Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley by Diana Leto

I had to share this sensitively wistful, lovely portrait of eighteen year old Frankenstein author, Mary Shelley, painted by my friend and frequent collaborator, Diana Leto.

I love how Diana has made the lightning a part of Mary herself.  Indeed, the fiery sparks appear to be emanating directly from her.  Placing quill to parchment, she is about to write:

"It was on a dreary night of November that I beheld the accomplishment of my toils..."

And, thus, she changed the world forever.

Mary Shelley practically made me creatively, bit by bit, just as she stitched together her undying Monster.  I would not be the writer, nor the man I am, without her haunting influence.

Thanks, Diana.
