A suspenseful scene of lycanthropic horror from a new project by artist Steven Gordon and I. This will be published by Sequential Pulp Comics, an imprint of Dark Horse.

The title, for now, remains mysterious.

The Halloween Muse

Many writers seem to "live" their work, but what happened to me yesterday was rather eerie and can only be described as the work suddenly developing a life of its own.

While writing an integral chapter of The Halloween Legion a profound secret within my little group of weirdos abruptly made its presence known to me on the page, taking literal control of the story.


















I was utterly stunned.

This is the rare moment when creatively motivated folks genuinely feel the presence of their "Muse", something seemingly outside of themselves, guiding the process. My characters were actually writing themselves and telling me what they wanted me to do--practically demanding it.

A rather bizarre experience even for me, to say the least, but also kind of wonderful.

Scarlet in Gaslight at 25

The 25th Anniversary Edition of Scarlet in Gaslight, my Sherlock Holmes/Dracula graphic novel, is moving along nicely, from the heroic folks at Pulp 2.0 Press.





































This will be my book's 7th printing since it was originally published in 1987, when it was nominated for an Eisner Award. We're gathering lots of fun special features material and a very classy new cover to make this a real event. There will be some cool merchandise, too. It will be available around Christmas.

The Halloween Legion Lives!

Although they haven't been born yet, The Halloween Legion are slowly, but surely, expanding their universe and taking on a life of their own.

Already in the works are an illustrated prose novella, comics, and a coloring book. Wonder what should be next? Card games? Board games? Masks? Action figures? Saturday morning cartoon?

Maybe a children's book written in fun, rhyming verse?

Get Well, Jenna!

I'd like to express a very special Get Well wish for my friend, hard-rockin' Jenna Enemy. She was struck and injured by a moving vehicle last week while rescuing her dog from being hit.














That makes Jenna a hero to me. She's like Wonder Woman--only cuter and she can play a mean bass.

Hope you're up and at 'em soon, Jenna!

My View of the Future --Today

Sitting here in my new studio, inside our new house, still feels rather dream-like. I'm full to bursting with creativity, and there simply aren't enough hours in the day for all I want to write.

Most oddly inspirational to me is that the Minnesota State Fair's 330 foot tall "Space Tower" is practically in our front yard, and can be viewed from my studio, the kitchen, the bedroom, and our backyard deck.













Once things are a bit more in order I'm snap some photos to show. For now, here are some pics of the Space Tower so those not in the Twin Cities can see what I'm talking about, including a view of our neighborhood as seen from on top of the structure. In fact, our house is in this picture. That's the Saint Paul skyline looming in the distance.















I'm thinking that eventually a gorilla running amok needs to climb this.

Happy July 4th

Happy 4th of July!

Today is also special for me because it's my parent's anniversary.

Dad--hope you're celebrating in style today...that's what Mom would've wanted from all of us.

An ERB Trilogy Begins

A pre-production illustration by artist Will Meugniot for an officially licensed property by the estate of Edgar Rice Burroughs, to be illustrated by Will and written by me.

Can't mention the name before the press release, but I will drop the hint that this story is part of a very popular trilogy of ERB novels. Published by Sequential Pulp Comics, an imprint of Dark Horse.

Coming in 2012!
